Description
6.5" (17 cm.) and 8". Each has paper mache head depicting a
highly characterized person with wide googly eyes,arched
brows,over-sized nose,wide sculpted moustache,one lean with
black hair and sculpted cap,the other short and pudgy with bald
pate; each with all-metal body constructed in an intricate
manner with ball-bearings allowing infinite articulation,paper
mache hands with posed fingers in different manner. Condition:
generally excellent. Marks: Bucherer Made in Switzerland.
Comments: Bucherer,the Swiss clock and watch maker created a
series of comical dolls,circa 1920,with unique metal ball-
bearing bodies; this pair depict the comic strip characters Mutt
and Jeff. Value Points: wonderful original condition of the
caricature pair,each with original felt costume,and celluloid
button; Jeff's pin saying "I'm the guy that done it all",and Mutt's
pin "On your way".
