Description
24" (61 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very full modeling
of cheeks,dark blue paperweight inset eyes,thick dark
eyeliner,painted lashes with dot highlights,brush-stroked and
multi-feathered brows,accented eye corners,shaded nostrils of
finely shaped nose,closed mouth with defined space between
the shaded and outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig
over cork pate,French composition and wooden fully-jointed
body with straight wrists,expressively posed fingers,wearing
midnight blue velvet dress with ivory silk bodice,lace
bonnet,undergarments,leather shoes,knit stockings. Condition:
generally excellent. Marks: 4 H. Comments: Aristide
Halopeau,circa 1878,successor to the Barrois doll
firm,commissioned a unique sculpture for his bebe and
commissioned its production by the Frayon porcelain firm with
painting by the well-known French artist,Barnard. The creation
of the bebe was purely a luxury and few models were made. This
example appears in The Encyclopedia of French Dolls,page
270,and was acquired by Geri Baker from the Mildred Seeley
Collection.
