20" (51 cm.) Solid domed paper mache shoulder head of adult woman with oval-shaped face and elongated strong throat,small black enamel glass eyes,painted lashes and brows,accented nostrils of aquiline nose,closed mouth with small prim lips,original brunette hand-tied human hair wig over black painted pate,shapely kid poupee body with gusset-jointed hips,stitched and separated fingers. Condition: generally excellent,body especially sturdy. Comments: French,circa 1860,the wonderfully preserved early poupee has fine lustrous original patina of complexion,original wig,body,and superb original costume of wealthy lady of Arles highlighted by silk fichu with Alencon lace edged with pearl and glass bead teardrops,pearls,and black velvet coiffe.
