Pressed bisque swivel head on kid-edged shoulder plate, very elongated slender face with pale complexion, strong modeling of aquiline nose, chin line and cheek bones, blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accent line between the pale lips, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, kid gusset-jointed poupee body, Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1865, the strong facial lines and unusual costume suggest the doll may have been presented to represent the French author, Georges Sands, a notable subject of stylized portraiture throughout the 19th century. Value Points: the outstanding portrait doll with highly refined aristocratic features is enhanced by her all original and most unique hunting ensemble of green velvet with brown felt fedora, and carrying finely crafted leather accessories including collar, supply strap, gaiters, and belt, along with finely woven pouch and walnut-cased faux-rifle with cast mountings.
