Description
10" (25 cm.) Carved wooden socket head with rounded childlike
features,solid dome with tinted hair,carved and painted facial
features,large blue upper glancing eyes in outlined eye
sockets,arched thin-line brows,closed mouth with sculpted
space between the lips,wooden torso with realistically sculpted
male elements,wooden arms jointed at shoulders and
elbows,one piece wooden legs with painted blue stockings and
red shoes,early brocade and silk costume. Condition: very good
with original painting finish with some fading,some costume
fraility. Comments: circa 1780,from the very rare one-of-a-
kind series of court dolls,France,represented various figures in
the court of Louis XVI; according to new research by French doll
historian Francois Theimer,the doll may represent the Dauphin
of 1781. Value Points: very rare early carved wooden doll with
documented history,owned by Mildred Seeley prior to its
