Description
25"(64 cm.) Seated on a maple wood spindled chair that is
arranged upon a velvet covered red platform is a paper mache
aged woman with well-defined character features,strong
nose,cheek and jaw structure,blue glass eyes,leather
eyelids,open mouth,scattered teeth,impressed age
wrinkles,white mohair wig,carton torso,metal upper arms and
legs,paper mache lower arms and hands,the fingers sculpted in
a "knitting"position,wearing old cotton dress,shawl,muslin
apron,coiffe,and holding knitting needles and half-made
stocking in her hands. Condition: generally excellent.
Comments: Roullet et Decamps,circa 1890,the large model
appeared in their catalog as #265 "Vielle Tricoteuse"(old lady
knitter). When wound,music plays,she nods her head back and
forth,her eyelids open and close,and she pivots both wrists in a
realistic semblance of knitting. Value Points: fine large size
automaton with expressive features,great animation.
