78"(198 cm.) A Federalist-style floor-standing columnar wooden case has framed glass door
that opens for changing of the tune discs and starting of the music. The paneled lower half is
a disc storage bin. Condition: the music is vigorous and beautiful,and albeit having two
broken teeth,the combs show no indication of wear or oxidation and are perfectly in tune. Five
27"discs are included. Comments: Regina Music Box Co.,of Rahway,New Jersey,circa 1896. The
unserialized mechanism suggests that this is an early example fo the Regina 27"line. The
Regina Music Box Co was the largest and most successful of the several American firms that
together caused New Jersey to become the headquarters of music box making in America.
Value Points: a fine example of the high standards and workmanship of the Regina firm,the
cabinet a magnificent piece of cabinetry and music and sound with most desirable qualities.
