22"(56 cm.) Seated upon a pedestal stool on a velvet-covered wooden platform is a slender-
faced clown with paper mache head,blue glass eyes,artistically painted white clown face with
various symbols,open mouth with long tongue,auburn fleecy hair,carton torso,wire hinged
legs arranged with left leg crossed at the knee,wire upper arms,bisque forearms,holding an
inlay mandolin,wearing silk clown costume. Condition: generally excellent,mechanism and
music function well. Marks: L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert,circa 1885,when
wound,music plays and the clown begins his performance,lifting his head and moving in a
circular and nodding motion,strumming the mandolin,bending at the waist,keeping time to
music with his left leg,and sticking his tongue in and out. Value Points: delightful and
complicated movements are beautifully synchronized and have an appealing realistic flow,on
the rarely found model.
