A group of dolls,doll furniture and related ephemera from the Bentonport,Iowa childhood home of Senator William E. Mason of Illinois (1850-1921),including a pair of 18"German bisque dolls,model 143,by Kestner (one blue-eyed,one brown-eyed) with original signed bodies,15"German bisque character 100 by K*R with baby body,15"German bisque character 150 by Hertel and Schwab,along with two antique doll beds,two antique doll dressers with fancy carving,five handmade doll quilts,Sunbonnet baby coverlet,and a collection of vintage photographs of the original home,its interior,and family members including children with their dolls and toys. And there is a large album with extensive photographs and memorabilia of Senator Mason and family members including his sister Mary Mason Clark (Mrs. M.M. Clark) who owned "Fashionable Millinery"on Fifth Street in Des Moines about 1882. Her memorabilia includes trade cards and advertising pieces. In addition there is material related to other family inventions and enterprises including the 1869 patent for Mason Fruit Jars by J.L. Mason and stories about the early Mason automobile. The memorabilia was exhibited for many years in the Mason House,located in the National Historic District of Bentonsport Iowa,. Built in 1846 the home remained in the Mason Family for 99 years retaining many of its original holdings.
