Description
20" (51 cm.) Posed upon a velvet covered base is a Chinese
woman with bisque head having highly characterized features
and rich amber complexion,oval facial shape,high cheekbones
and defined chin,brown glass inset eyes,richly painted lashes
and brows,closed mouth with accented lips,pierced ears,black
mohair wig in upswept coiffure with hair ornaments,carton torso
and legs,wire upper arms,bisque forearms. When wound,she
gracefully turns her head side to side in upward sweep,nods
briefly,lifts her right arm to pour tea (two pours),offers the
tray,pauses and repeats while music plays. Condition: generally
excellent,well-functioning. Comments: Leopold Lambert,named
"Chinois Verseuse" in his catalog,circa 1888; with bisque head
by Jumeau uniquely modeled for this automaton (it has never
appeared on any other automaton or doll) and thus a premiere
work of the Lambert firm. Value Points: very rare model with
exquisite sculpting and bisque,wearing original golden silk and
brocade costume,functioning well.
