20"(51 cm.) A gilded brass-plated bird cage with embossed designs at bottom rim,surmounted by brass ball with carrying handle,contains two feathered birds,one posed on the green velvet ground,the other on a bird perch. When wound,the birds begin the performance including movements of flitting tail feathers,turning head from side to side,and opening and closing beak,while singing various bird songs; the birds alternate their songs and movement,and sometime perform together. Condition: generally excellent,brass caging has been polished and/or replated,mechanisms and song function well. Comments: Bontems,circa 1890. Value Points: unusually fine quality and variety of bird songs with a long sustained program.
