13"(33 cm.) Paper mache head with sculpted brown hair and highly characterized facial features retaining their original finish,paper-wrapped armature body with paper mache hands and lower legs,painted shoes,mounted on original wooden base. Condition: generally excellent,slight paint miss at top of head. Comments: French,mid-19th century,from a series of characters representing French folks,at least two other models are known to exist (see Encyclopedia of French Dolls,page 223),one bearing the date 1854. Value Points: rare early doll in fine state of preservation with detailed original costume,carrying fruit basket and scale for weighing.
