Description
13"(33 cm.) h. x 17"h. x 7"d. A wooden framed box with richly gilded finish contains an interior
vignette depicting a ship at sea in deep waves,a lighthouse at shore in the background with a
painted lead guard standing in the tower peering into the distance with some concern. When
string-wound,the ship rocks back and forth in the stormy sea,and the soldier walks patrol in the
tower, while music plays. There is a concealed musical box movement that provides two melodies
and is wound by a pull-string from the side that also activates the movements. Excellent
condition of the rare petite sized mechanical tableau with wonderful decorative detail of the
ship, original (partial) tune label on the side. Circa 1880.
