40"(102 cm.) w. x 34"h. x 7"d. The oil-on-canvas depicts a busy country scene with a grand estate along a stream that pours into a lake. There is much activity: villagers on foot,a man fishing,a man hauling cargo in his boat,women washing cloths on the bank of the stream. A clock tower painted on the estate has a set-in clock,in actual scale to the painting,with original porcelain dial (2"diam),having 2-train steel spring suspension,pendulum,and both hour and half-hour strikes. The musical unit is wound separately by pull-string or via the timepiece at each hour. The whole is presented in a large gilded gesso and wood frame with ornate floral designs. Condition: generally excellent,few small chips on frame,Marks: Japy Freres (clock) Marie Delebarte le 8-5-1892 (pencil inscription on the interior). Comments: French circa 1892. Value Points: the well-preserved tableau offers a decorative painting along with quality timepiece and music.
