Description
17"(43 cm.) All cloth doll with flat dimensional face,painted hair in shaded brown with ringlet
curls around the face,painted facial features,upper glancing eyes,outlined eye sockets and
brows,outlined nose with accented nostrils,closed mouth with center accent line,muslin stitch-
jointed body. Condition: generally excellent except 1/2 back of head covering is lacking.
Comments: made by members of the Ladies Sewing Society of the Central Moravian Church in
Bethlehem,Pennsylvania as a fund-raiser in their charity work,and named Polly Heckewelder after
the daughter of the early Moravian Missionary,according to early attached sheet. The doll was
made from 1872 onward; this example being late 19th century. Value Points: very dear face and
expression,wearing original pink cotton dress,pinafore and undergarments.
