21"(53 cm.) Poised in a majestic manner with elegant posture is a bisque-head lady with pale
blue glass eyes,painted lashes,feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed
mouth with accented lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,bisque shoulder
plate,metal hands,shapely carton upper torso that merges into full-length metal skirt-shaped
form that contains the mechanical and musical works,three spoked metal wheels at the base.
The lady is garbed in her original (slightly dusty) bronze silk faille gown with aqua satin trim
and extended train that is supported by a hidden back hoop. Condition: generally
excellent,music and mechanism function well. Marks: (original paper tune label lists two
tunes). Comments: Gustav Vichy,circa 1875,when wound,the lady elegantly glides
forward,pivots,turns,pauses,and repeats,turns her head,and alternately fans herself and lifts
her lorgnette to peer at the surrounding scene. Value Points: luxury automata designed for
appeal to haute society,with superb costuming,intricate hidden mechanism,and deluxe details
of accessories including bonnet,ormolu lorgnette,inlay fan. The original uniquely shaped
wooden box is included.
