20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a wooden platform with red velvet and gilded metallic cover is a bisque headed doll with brown glass eyes, mohair lashes, painted lashes and brows, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, cork pate, carton torso and legs posed with right bent knee, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1300 4 1/2 S.h. dep (head) L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1895, when keywound and lever released, music plays, the little boy moves his head from side to side, and nods, his arms move up and down as though strumming the mandolin. Value Points: an appealing parlor automaton with lovely music, is perfectly preserved, wearing magenta silk Spanish toreador costume with soutache trim, cap, and carries fine mandolin of inlay woods and mother-of-pearl.
