12" (30 cm.) A lady with paper mache head with black enamel eyes, pale complexion, open mouth with double row of teeth, original white/blonde mohair wig in late 18th century style, carton torso with lady shape, paper mache standing legs, wire upper arms, kid hands, is posed upon a three-wheeled tinplate platform. When keywound, the lady glides forward, pauses, revolves, then glides again, while her head nods and arms move up and down as though showing the flowers she holds. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Guillard. Comments: attributed to the automaton maker, Alexander Theroude, circa 1850, and sold in the luxury Parisian toy shop, A La Galerie Vivienne, of Guillard. Value Points: very rare and superbly preserved automaton, functioning well, the lady wearing her original cream silk satin and lace fitted gown, pearls, and elaborate original coiffure with woven braids at the back of her head, with its original glass dome and wooden base.
