Description

20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a wooden platform with moss green velvet cover is a bisque-headed doll with blue glass eyes, mohair lashes, painted lower lashes and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, open mouth, accented lips, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms with expressively posed fingers. When wound, the doll performs a series of realistic movements, alternately turning head side to side, nodding up and down, blinking eyes, fanning herself, and then lifting lorgnette as though to peer out at some interesting scene; meanwhile music plays. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well, slight frailty to original costume. Marks: 1300-6 Dep S&H. Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1895. Value Points: luxury parlor fancy automaton, the little girl has original fancy costume, matching fancy fan, deluxe quality gilded lorgnette, and appealing movements and music.
