Seated upon a gilded wooden chair which rests upon a red velvet covered base is a bisque-headed doll with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes, brush-stroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, accented lips, row of tiny porcelain teeth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso, metal upper arms and legs, paper mache lower legs posed crossed. The little girl holds knitting needles and is busily knitting a stocking; when wound music plays (two tunes) while she nods her head up and down, and realistically "knits". Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well, costume original albeit dusty. Marks: 5 Tete Jumeau (doll). Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1895. Value Points: charming automata with beautiful Jumeau head, original presentation in fancy gilded chair, and lovely accompaniment to an exhibit of small French bebes.
