Description

23" (58 cm.) Bisque socket head with oval face and strong shaped chin and cheek lines, almond-shaped blue glass flirty eyes that operate from rarer glass rod inside head, mohair lashes, painted curly all-around lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with generous smiling expression on the outlined lips, row of sculpted teeth, impressed dimples at lip corners, cheeks and chin, unpierced ears, brunette mohair wig, French composition and wooden lady body with ball-joints, and shapely torso with modeled bosom, waist and derriere. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Bebe Jumeau Diplome d'honneur (body). Comments: Simon and Halbig's 1388 model, circa 1910; its unmarked head, French marked lady body, and original French silk costume suggest its original commissioned production for Paris boutique. Value Points: very beautiful doll with superior quality of bisque, sculpting and painting, in rare large size, has original lashes, signed body, and wears superb French silk Edwardian-era costume with plumed straw bonnet, undergarments, black stockings and leather shoes (additional silk blouse and bonnet included); few examples in this larger size are known to exist.
