20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet covered platform (disguised by her long gown) is a bisque-headed doll with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, lushly painted dark lashes, widely arched brush-stroked brows, rose blushed eye shadow, accented nostrils, closed mouth, white mohair wig in late 18th century style coiffure, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. The doll is costumed as a Marquise of the Royal court in blue satin with crepe de chene borders and holds a powder puff in one hand and mirror in the other. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well, glass of mirror is lacking. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau 4 (doll) L.B. (key) Carmen Danse (tune label). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890,the uniquely designed automaton achieved its ladylike stature by cascading the gown over the platform base, Value Points: beautiful and rare automaton with lovely music, exquisite appearance with original wig and costume; from the Samuel Pryor collection before its acquisition by Carole Jean Zvonar.
