38" (97 cm.) x 19" S. Stretched canvas on wooden frame with oil painting in delicate pastel colors of child seated on a lacy-fitted bed, having tousled blonde hair and beautifully painted face, clasping a toy soldier and toy Polichinelle in his arms. Signed S. Belhemond (or Bethemond) in lower left, and the canvas is stamped "Blanchet, 58 rue Bonaparte Paris" on the reverse. Late 19th century. Excellent condition.
