8" (20 cm.) x 8". A wooden framed viewing box with green paper cover, accordion leather bellows for viewing perspective, contained in partial original cardboard box. The box is labeled "Polyorama Panoptique Brevet d'invention". Included are 17 hand-painted scenes of Paris and England that change from day/night perspective when using the Panoptique. The scenes, each identified on the reverse, include Champs d'Elysee, Brighton, Palais Royal, London, and others. An exceptional rare early optical device with superb detail of the 17 scenes. Excellent condition. Mid-19th century.
