17" (43 cm.) Solid domed paper mache shoulder head with black painted pate beneath tacked-on coiffe, black glass enamel eyes, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth with pale accented lips, original straw-filled early muslin body, wax fingers. Condition: generally excellent, wax fingers missing on right hand. Comments: French, circa 1840. Value Points: an early poupee with pleasing expression, original finish, the lady doll wears her original habit of coarse hand-woven brown wool, linen coiffe, woolen underskirt, straw slippers, wrapped leggings, and with original wooden rosary, and gilded crucifix.
