21" (53 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with flat-cut neck socket, pale blue glass eyes with spiral threading, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, lightly feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, slightly parted lips with accent dots, two rows of tiny teeth, original blonde mohair fleecy wig, carton torso with clockwork mechanism, composition arms and lower legs, hinged upper legs with kid cover, when keywound the doll turns its head from side to side, and waves limbs in the air. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Aux Enfants Sages Benon Bte Guiton, Succ. (original paper label on front torso). Comments: Jules Steiner, the bebe was commissioned by the prestige Parisian toy store of Aux Enfants Sage, circa 1880. Value Points: beautiful bisque and expression, original wig, original (somewhat frail) costume of ice blue silk with rich embroidery, undegarments, lace cap, stockings, leather shoes with rosettes.
