Description
Of creamy soft paste with transfer designs in shades of grey and black, the service comprises 4" lidded coffee pot, lidded tea pot, lidded sugar bowl, two tall cream pitchers, lidded tureen, bowl, one large round platter, 23 various plates and bowls, and 8 handled mugs. The decorations feature country scenes, viz. children riding a large dog, girl shearing lamb, lady feeding a goat, little boy with drum and soldier, six children playing soldiers and blind man's bluff, and also include some playful scenes in the Chinoiserie style. Generally excellent, some few early hairlines, teapot lid reglued. English, mid-19th century, a delightful set with numerous scenes.
