13" (33 cm.) A bisque shoulder-head doll with blue glass inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, ball-shaped torso, wooden stick handle, is lavishly costumed in gold-metallic and sequin trimmed rose silk with lace collar. When twirled around, the costume lappets create a festive mood. Condition: generally excellent, music plays sparingly. Comments: French, circa 1885, the party marottes were popular in French salons and evening galas throughout the 19th century. Value Points: well-preserved and very fancy original costume and Polichinelle cap, with brass bell decorations.
