Description

19" (48 cm.) Standing upon a maroon velvet covered base which contains clockwork and musical mechanism, is a bisque-headed doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brush-stroked and multi-feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (head) (paper label of children playing and script "La Mascotte" on underside of base). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890, when wound the little girl turns head from side to side, nods, and alternately dabs perfume into hankie and then lifts hankie to face, while music plays. Value Points: dainty automata working perfectly with pretty La Mascotte tune, original costume of patterned aqua silk, lovely bisque.
