Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead of dark complexioned man with sculpted unruly curled hair, enamel eyes, incised character lines on face, open mouth with well-defined tongue and teeth, tinted beard stubble, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, wearing rustic sheep herder's costume comprising homespun fleeced vest over blue homespun jacket, laced shirt, brown short pants, laced leggings, and carrying a suede shoulder bag and carved wooden flute with bone tip. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, early 1800s, outstanding detail of expressive modeling is enhanced by finest artistry of painted features and complexion.
