Description

14" (36 cm.) Bisque socket head with two alternate faces, one smiling with row of painted teeth and brown glass inset eyes, and the other wailing with brown glass eyes, open mouth with modeled tongue and painted and modeled fret lines. The head is enclosed in paper mache hood that attaches to a shoulder plate with modeled blouse, carton torso, muslin upper arms and legs, paper mache lower arms and legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Deutsches Reichs patent U.S.P No 248762. Comments: circa 1895. Value Points: a rare variation of the two-faced doll bearing strong resemblance to the Jumeau two-faced character model created at the same time.
