12" (30 cm.) Solid domed wax over paper mache shoulder head with bald pate, blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth with hinged jaw that causes lower mouth to open, revealing tongue and tiny teeth, original muslin body with bellows torso, waxed lower arms, paper mache lower legs with loosely-jointed ankles. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1865, when the stomach bellows is squeezed, the baby cries "mama" and his mouth opens and closes. Value Points: especially well preserved original finish on the rare-to-find early doll, wearing original baby gown, undergarments, bonnet.
