Description
13" (33 cm.) x 12". A fine walnut cabinet with inlay design and original lock and key, hinges open to reveal seven pull-out wooden display shelves, each containing several cards with samples of mid-19th century needlework. There are 28 cards, each with a different form of needlework, and each is identified with a paper label with elegant hand lettering naming the object or the needlework performed. The objects range from lacework, crocheting, and embroidery to actual construction of miniature doll costumes. An ink script note attached to the original key says "boite ouvrages faite par Mere en pension", Excellent condition of the rare historical needlework document. Circa 1865
