Description
Comprising woven straw "a deux bonjours" bonnet with unusual lavender velvet banding and ribbons, and straw embroidery (3 1/2" inside head width); muslin cap form that is entirely and lavishly covered with a gathered royal purple edging, and tiers of gathered Alencon lace that cascade onto the nape and are decorated with pale lavender ribbons (4 1/2" inside head width); and a delicately woven black lace cap designed to capture the hair at the back of the head, that is embroidered with cream dots and features a very high crown of gathered tulle, lace, fringe and lavender ribbons (7" inside head width). Excellent condition. Circa 1865.
