23" (58 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with elongated facial modeling and very full cheeks, almond-shaped brown glass inset eyes of great depth, thick black eyeliner, mauve blushed eye shadow, delicately painted lashes and brows, accented eye corners and shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the pale outlined lips, defined philtrum and chin dimple, separately applied pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with very plump limbs and straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent, some body repaint, left thumb broken. Marks: 9 EJ (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1882, the earliest model of the signature EJ bebe. Value Points: rarest large model with entrancing expression, original early signed body, wearing superb antique blue silk dress, underblouse, silk and crepe de chine matching bonnet, undergarments, Jumeau stockings, and blue kidskin ankle boots with silk rosettes.
