Description

19" (48 cm.) Depicting a pair of musicians, each with paper mache head having rich brown complexion, glass eyes with moveable eyelids, expressive character features with slightly open mouth and row of teeth, black mohair fleecy wig, carton torso, paper mache limbs with hinged legs and arms. Each is posed seated upon a high wooden stool with velvet cover, which contains mechanism and music, and is wearing in colorful island attire. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well except boy's foot does not tap. Comments: Vichy, circa 1890, when wound, fine quality musical box plays, the boy strums the banjo, nods head, and blinks eyes; the girl plats the accordion, taps her shapely foot, blinks her eyes and nods her head. Value Points: rare to find models, especially rare as pair, in fine original condition, the automata were among the most cherished object of Andree Petyt.
