33" (84 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with elongated facial modeling and very full cheeks, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes of luminous depth, dark eyeliner encircles the eye sockets, painted lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, brush stroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with pale accented lips, defined philtrum and chin dimple, separately modeled pierced ears, antique brunette human hair wig, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with very plump limbs and straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent, early repaint on body. Marks: 16. Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1885, the model sculpted by Carriere-Belleuse, the noted French sculptor, under commission by Jumeau. Value Points: the very rare largest size made of the Bebe Triste, few examples are known to exist, this having superlative bisque, sculpting and painting, original body, and wonderful antique aqua silk costume with lace and silver bell trim, matching jester cap, undergarments, black stockings and shoes.
