A heavy card stock box is covered with embossed decorative papers on the sides and borders, and has early tinted lithograph on the lid depicting three women dressing a little girl in the newest fashions of the season. The box hinges open to reveal a loose paper scene of an elegant salon in scale for display with the paper doll, and a compartmented bottom containing a fine cabinet wood tilting mirror with inlay design, along with a double-sided paper doll posed with folding arms. Two small boxes contain blue velvet covered stands for the doll, and 10 bonnets or coiffes. There are 12 double-sided costumes designed to slide over the head and body of the doll. The box is signed H. Rousseau, Ed. Paris, Lith. H. Jannin, Paris, and the exterior scene is signed Pommier. Excellent condition, the contents pristine, the box lid with minor spotting on the left. Paris, circa 1860.
