Description
13" (33 cm.) x 7" base. Posed upon a wooden base with decorative paper covers is a paper mache donkey with glass eyes and nodding head. Seated side-saddle on the donkey is a paper mache monkey with painted facial features, original silk costume, wooden hands and feet, holding a brass horn. When the porcelain-tipped handle at the front is turned, the monkey turns to and fro, the donkey nods his head, and pumps the musical organ with his right foot; music plays. Condition: very good, surface dust, mechanism and music function well. Comments: attributed to Zinner and Sohner, circa 1890. Value Points: rare and amusing automaton with charming motions.
