24" (61 cm.) Solid domed paper mache head with fine gofun complexion, painted hair with comb-marked details, very full cheeks and throat, small enamel inset eyes, incised upper eyeliner, tinted grey brows, closed mouth with incised detail on lips, large size sculpted ears, paper mache shoulderplate, lower torso, and lower legs and feet, wooden lower arms and hands, muslin midriff and upper arms and legs. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Japan, circa 1900. Value Points: superbly-preserved condition of the grand-sized Ichimatsu which wears luxury original and multi-layered silk and silk crepe costume with unusual woven design of three ceremonial characters on back of jacket.
