All cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features, very unusual painted pale complexion, painted light brown hair with golden highlights, circular stitched crown, stitched ears, large brown eyes with long painted lashes and brows, closed mouth, full lips, stitch-jointed shoulders and hips, painted sienna boots that reach above the knees, antique costume. Condition: good, original finish, wear on nose tip and toe fronts. Marks: No. II Patented Sept. 26, 1905 (torso stamp). Comments: early model by Ella Smith, circa 1908, the doll's very pale white complexion is original, and appears to have been made only for a short time before blush was added to the painting mix. Value Points: charming early patent model with rare original complexion, unusual boots; the doll is featured in "Ella Smith and Alabama Dolls Scrapbook" by Jacque Shafer.
