Description

23" (58 cm.) All cloth doll with hard pressed and painted facial features and hair, depicting a black-complexioned child, with side-seams, molded ears, black painted short hair, white eye dots, closed mouth, stitch-jointing at shoulders and hips, wearing calico shirt, blue denim overalls and cap, canvas bag. Condition: original painted finish, nose and cheek rub. Comments: Ella Smith's Alabama Baby, circa 1920, the doll was given to Louise Jordan by Ella Smith herself, and later passed to Mae McLaughlin, the niece of Louise. Value Points: rare model with appealing presence.
