19" (48 cm.) All cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features and hair, circular seamed crown, unusual neck stitching at front throat, stitched-on ears, painted golden brown hair with center-part and variation in painting style, painted large brown eyes, thick lashes and lightly feathered brows, closed mouth, stitch-jointed shoulders and hips, painted blue ankle boots, antique muslin chemise dress. Condition: very good, some craquelure, some body spotting and play wear. Comments: Ella Smith's Alabama Baby, an early model, circa 1905. Value Points: unusual painting style, the facial features more closely centered in face, wonderful expression, the doll is featured in "Ella Smith and Alabama Dolls Scrapbook" by Jacque Shafer.
