Description
32" (81 cm.) l. A carved wooden two-hump camel is covered with light brown hide, and has glass eyes, generous mane and elaborate leather harness and metal stirrups. The camel rests upon cast iron wheels so it can be moved along. Excellent condition. French, circa 1867, the quality of workmanship, grand size, and rarity of the exotic animal style suggests its production by Nicolas Schanne, whose toy animals were exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exposition, and highly praised by the judges.
