22" (56 cm.) All cloth doll with rich brown complexion, pressed and oil painted facial features and hair, molded ears, stitch-jointing at shoulders and hips, painted finger nails, bare feet with painted nails, wearing calico print dress and bandana, shawl, apron, undergarments. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Ella Smith's "Alabama Baby", as presented in her 1919 catalog, described as "Negro Mammy Doll" although the same model in variation of costume was also sold as boy child; the doll was offered in six standard sizes from 12"-26", this being size #3 selling originally for $6.10 direct from the doll studio. Value Points: rare doll in wonderful original painted finish, rare larger size.
