Description
10" (25 cm.) excluding crown. Carved wooden swivel head with ebony black complexion, bald pate, well-defined facial features, painted eyes, cloth-wrapped armature body, wooden hands and full-length shapely legs, painted red stockings and gilt boots. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Austrian, attributed to Johann Neponuk Giner, early 1700s. The Giner family was celebrated in Austria as the creators of several important early crib scenes from their Tyrolean hometown of Thaur. Value Points: fine all-original condition, wearing original green velvet costume overlaid with gilt metallic paillettes and thread embroidery, including full-length lined cape wide collar, large "diamond" medallion, head-dress decorated with gold beads, rhinestones and feathers.
