Description

19 (48 cm.) A bisque-headed lady with blue glass enamel eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and delicately feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, carton torso with lady shape and forming into a full-length cone-shaped form that is hidden beneath her skirt and terminates in a metal platform with three small wheels, wire upper arms, metal hands. The mechanism is hidden inside the cone skirt, and, when wound, the lady glides forward, turns, continues, while turning head from side to side as though in time to the melody she plays on the beautifully decorated wooden guitar held in her arms; her fingers of right hand strum across the strings. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Comments: Vichy, circa 1870. Value Points: rare deluxe automaton whose elegant movements are enhanced by beautiful appearance and rich original costume.
