Description

18" (46 cm.) Standing upon a velvet covered platform containing clockwork and musical mechanisms is a bisque-headed doll with brown glass paperweight eyes, lushly painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, white mohair wig, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4. (doll). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890, when wound the doll turns head side to side as though keeping time to the music she makes by clanging cymbals held in her hand; music plays. Value Points: rare lady model of Polichinelle is very rare to find, this example having original front and back humps wearing original elaborate red and gold silk costume with matching bell-trimmed cap and slippers.
