13" (33 cm.) Bisque socket head depicting a pair of highly characterized rascals, having sculpted hair, painted facial features, composition and wooden ball-jointed bodies, original costumes. Including Moritz having sculpted red hair with topknot and flip curls, blue intaglio eyes glancing to the right, red and black upper lashes, curvy brows, pointy nose, very wide beaming smile; and Max with midnight brown sculpted hair in shaggy bobbed fashion, comb-marked detail of hair, intaglio eyes glancing to the eight, button-shaped nose, narrow wide smile. Condition: Moritz has typical restoration to peak of topknot, paint rub on nose and flip edges; Max has chip at bottom back neck socket (hidden low inside torso),otherwise excellent. Comments: Kestner, circa 1912. Value Points: rare and delightful dolls portraying the characters of the Wilhelm Busch children's books, having superb detail of sculpting and decoration.
