16 (41 cm.) Arranged upon a wooden base that hides musical and mechanical movements is a lively scene centered by a clock tower constructed of heavy card stock with painted brick and stone work, turrets and railings, and working clock. The ground presents a pathway with ferns and branches, and at the front a pond. There are two bisque-headed children seated along the path, and two other children seated on a small paddle boat in the pond. A hand-painted village scene on the inside of the covering dome forms the background. When wound, music plays and the boat rocks up and down from a mechanical movement hidden in the base, to appear as though the girls were rowing; the clock is wound separately from the front. Condition: generally excellent, mechanisms and music function well. Marks: (original paper tune label cites 2 airs). Comments: French, circa 1885. Value Points: appealing petite size of the amusing domed vignette is perfectly original, most amusing, and has wonderful quality of music.
